111 degrees....that's what the bank clock was reading at 1:00 this afternoon as I was driving by on my way back from the lake. Even I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere and today it was just too damn hot for outdoor activities of any sort and that included fishing. That being said, Joe and I still opted to hit the water for an hour seeing as our errands had us close by anyway.
We stopped more just to get wet and play around than anything, but of course I had a flyrod in the truck "just in case". Lately I've noticed while wading that the shallow waters are almost hot , I've had cups of coffee that weren't as warm. Not sure if it's these water temps or just my timing (I've been kinda lazy lately and havn't seen a sunrise on my days off for awhile now.) but the carp numbers are dwindling fast in the areas I frequent.
The warmer water temps don't seem to bother the "Redneck Redfish" though and they're still tailing around in the shallows eating god knows what. Managed to fool two of em in my short outing today and botched another half dozen attempts.
Nothing special but I got to hear the sweet sound of line peeling off my reel twice in one hour..on a day that was just too damn hot to fish. That doesn't suck in my book!
