4th of July Weekend Camping (No Fishing) TR

I hope everyone had a fun and safe 4th this past weekend. It's rather difficult to tie flies if your missing a finger or two so I hope we all paid attention to safe fireworks practices over the holiday and came out unscathed!!
I was lucky enough to be able to spend a three day weekend at the lake with the wife and dog , enjoying the nice weather and just relaxing.

I actually took the boat and a couple of rods hoping to get out and look for some carp or bass in my spare time one morning or evening , but unfortunately the wind blew so hard all three days it just didn't happen. As close as I got to actually fishing was walking the shoreline with Joe hoping to get lucky and find a carp.

We didn't find any fish but we did come upon an amazing hatch of mayflies on one particular shoreline.

I probably could have found somewhere that was out of the gale but to be honest I wasn't all that energetic , sometimes it's nice to spend the weekend sitting around in the shade of a big tree with a cold beverage and nothing else to do.

We went on a few short hikes on some local trails in the mornings after breakfast and then spent most of the afternoons lakeside cooling off in the water.

Of course , like most of the trips I'm party to , we also ate pretty good and enjoyed a few cold adult beverages come evening time while sitting around the campfire.

Considering that it was a holiday weekend the crowds weren't all that bad , while we still had to contend with a few idiots (you can't get away from them anymore...doesn't matter when or where you go!) we were surprisingly lucky and got to enjoy a couple of quiet evenings around camp.

All in all we had a great time...doing basically nothing except kicking back and relaxing with some good company.

    1. Thanks Mel...you never know how things will go on a summer holiday weekend but we lucked out this trip and didn't encounter too many "crazies".

    1. Joe's prett easy....give him a shady patch of green grass under a shade tree or a lake shoreline to meander along and he's happy. Come to think of it , so am I!!

  6. that would be tough for me to be out there without fishing. it sure does look relaxing though. Any time spent in the wilderness is a time well spent!!

    1. If the conditions would have been better it would have been harder not to fish , but with the strong winds it pretty much made putting the one man pontoon on the lake out of the question.
It was relaxing for sure , and of course I had a cooler full of beverages and an assortment of good cigars to help me pass the time!!

  8. Always 5 star dining! Joe certainly looks like he thoroughly enjoyed just kickin' back and relaxing. There's nothing wrong with that, and would take doing that over a work day, every day.

What was your side with that burger...looks like potatoes and cheese, but it looks like there's more to it....

    1. Thanks Justin...Those were just what I call dutch oven potatoes. Brown bacon in dutch oven and then add some onion and potatoes and cover and then put enough coals on top of the oven to bring it up to about 350. After about 35 minutes cover in monterey jack or cheddar cheese and let that melt and then enjoy!! They are pretty tasty for sure...

    1. Thanks Joseph....Of course I would have liked to have been able to wet a line but there's nothing wrong with kicking it at camp.

    1. My sentiments exactly!! Sometimes I find that if I take a week or two without touching a flyrod I enjoy it that much more when I do get a chance. The whole absence makes the heart grow fonder type thing....
