6/04 - 6/05 " Lazy Lake Weekend "

Photobucket
This past weekend I found myself down at Lake of the Ozarks hanging out with the wife and a couple of our good friends. They'd invited us down to their lakehouse for a relaxing couple days of just hanging out , and with the hot summer weather forecasted I couldn't think of any better way to spend my time. Not sure what happened to our Spring around here but I'm pretty sure we just jumped straight to Summer from Winter! The general idea was to turn the cell phones and laptops off and focus on more important issues...like which cooler keeps the beer coldest when it's sitting outside in 100 degree temps or how many beers you can drink in the time it takes the charcoal to get burnt down.

Of course I took the rod along because there was going to be water close by and you just never know. As it turned out there were fish to be caught and we managed to throw enough crappie and channel cats in the fish basket for a nice fish fry Sunday before we headed back home. Nothing big on the cats , largest was a white cat around 4-5 pounds , the rest were all too small to clean. We did catch a couple limits of nice crappie though with the largest being just a little over 13 inches. I managed a few smallish crappie on the long rod but the rest of the fish came on standard tackle , they only seemed to be interested in live minnows to my dissapointment.

I'm generally a fly only kind of guy but when the crew wants a fish fry and the situation warrants a different approach I'm not above grabbing the spinning rod. To that end I only got one fish pic the entire weekend...this is how they all ended up , rolled in batter and deep fried.

I had intentions of hitting the water again once we got back home and trying to chase down another carp or two but with 20-30 mile an hour winds both Monday and Tuesday it just didn't happen. Kind of sucks , it's only the first week of June and it already feels like a blast furnace outside around here. Oh well it's back to work for now ,I guess those fish will just have to wait until I get another chance , it's always that four letter word... WORK... that gets in the way of a perfectly good plan.
