In case you missed it...it was 70 degrees and mostly sunny both Saturday and Sunday of this past weekend. Enough said , right? Of course I snuck out of the house for a little time on the water , didn't you just read the first sentence of this post. It was a short trip this time as a couple of days was all I could swing , arriving saturday morning and heading back Sunday around noon (thanks to a tire leaking air on my buddys vehicle).
The weekend was spent hanging out with the boys from Oklahoma on one of Missouri's best Blue Ribbon trout waters. We bobber fished and caught lots of small wild rainbows and spent part of each day throwing streamers for a few browns as well. The best part of the weekend though was just being out on a beautiful Missouri river in February , with weather that felt more like June, and getting to share it with some good friends and a big cooler full of beer.
I'm not feeling too wordy this morning and the boss keeps walking through and looking at me like he wants me to actually do some form of work , so here's a few shots from the weekend that will tell the story better than I can anyway.
LOVE that sweet black lab!!! :) must have felt like heaven with that kind of weather break!
ReplyDeleteThe Spring-like weather was definitely enjoyed by all , the bad thing is it's now back down to more normal temperatures (24 degrees) and I was just starting to like that warmer weather.
DeleteRaz is a sweetheart , a little mischievous but a sweetheart nonetheless!!
Really enjoy the night picture of the Brown with the streamer in its mouth, that is pretty awesome. It was great weather indeed and I am glad you got to enjoy it. I was out as well, hiking not fishing, but did find what could be a stellar place to Carp fish, they were acting like it was July. Benefit is I can get there in 20 min from my door. Who knows, if we get another warm day I may just try and get my first February carp. Thanks for posting your pictures as well. Looks like a great time.
ReplyDeleteThanks man....just let me know when we're going , I like carp!!
DeleteI'm moving there. To damn cold here.
ReplyDeleteDon't pack your bags just yet...it's back down to below freezing right now. Oh well , it was sure nice while it lasted!
DeleteAt least you have open water there!
DeleteWow, where do you find time to fish...great photos buddy. I ca'n't complain too much about this winter in Colorado. It was sunny and in the 70s a couple of days last week, but still.
ReplyDeleteThanks Howard...We've definitely been pretty lucky this winter , although there's still enough time left for it to change my opinion on that subject. We'll take all of the sunny , 70 degree days we can get...right buddy??
DeleteAnd I thought it was warm up here with mid 30 degree weather. 70 sounds outrageous, and I'm extremely jealous of your weekend! Great pictures, as usual!
ReplyDeleteThanks Justin...that change of season is right around the corner and then we can all enjoy some nicer weather for a change. Unfortunately our weekend was just a tease , it's back to below freezing now.
DeleteGreat friends, great weather and some amazing scenery! Nice job capturing that eagle! Awesome pics! I see the trip was complete with a stogie and ice cold brew! Nice two day stess relief!
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with this trip was it went by way too quickly!! We saw 4 different eagles on the river in different areas over the two days , just wish I had a better camera with a good zoom so I could have gotten better shots. They are amazing birds and I always feel lucky to see them when I'm out on a river.
DeleteYep, you gotta go. Nice Brown--again--and nice eagle. Take your boss next time. Maybe he'll get off your back.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jim...My boss is more the golf sort of guy if you know what I mean. He's always asking how I can stand to be out camping and fishing in the weather we have around here...I don't bother to tell him that I love even the worst weather trips simply because it gets me away from guys just like him!!
Delete60 to 70 degrees, my word.
ReplyDeleteThat brown had some hunk of meat in his jaw.
It was nice while it lasted Alan...just a tease though , it's still Winter. That's about a 6" double deciever , he wasn't playing around for sure.
DeleteGlad to hear you were able to take advantage of the great weather and remind me what beautiful fish and wildlife look like. Thx for the inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteIt was just too nice to stay home , anyway that's what I told the wife.
DeleteThat's a beautiful river for sure , we always see lots of wildlife when we float this time of year. We'll have to hit it together before the Summer crowds converge.
Bobber Fishing? To me that's extremely technical, highly skilled, specialized nymphing! Especially on that river.
ReplyDeleteAnother great report to make us cube dwellers jealous. Beautiful eagle shot too. I've just been turned on to Eagle watching, they are amazing.
Dave
LOL...yeah , I suppose "bobber fishing" sounds a little derogatory doesn't it? Your description makes me sound like a better fisherman anyway!!
DeleteWe almost always see a few eagles on that river this time of year , and you're right , they are amazing birds. We watched one swoop down out of a tree one morning and grab something out of the water , he flew too far away to tell what it was (but I've got a pretty good guess)!
"Nuff said" for sure. Every picture tells a story........................................ And, what a magical story for this time of year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mel...I just wish it would have stuck around a little while longer , it's back to wearing the old winter coat again now. Oh well , Springs right around the corner!!
